Coniston Water is the third biggest lake in the Lake District  and just to the East of the lake is Coniston village. The lake was known as Thurston Water until the 1700’s.

Museums and Galleries
Brantwood House, former home of John Ruskin lies on the eastern shore of Lake Coniston. At one time the house was one of the liveliest artistic centres in Europe. The Ruskin Museum in Coniston is devoted to the local area’s history including the area’s trade in copper, slate, linen and wools.
